More discordant mush mash of fits and starts from 2022-23. I am starting to see the light at the end of the hard drive backlog. I have goals. 6 EPs in January 2025 is not what I expected or knew would happen, but here we are. There have been a number of mediocre tracks during my excavations, but some others have potential for further exploration. EP 6 is probably my least favorite EP thus far. I feel a little better about this number 7, but it’s just dumb luck depending on what tracks are in what project folders as I accomplish my aim to revisit drafts, and eventually start fresh (or reinterpret things).
I had forgotten I had started some the tracks on the past 7 EPs, or they weren’t familiar upon opening the projects and listening. It’s been nice to find drum kits I forgot I had made, so it’s helping me figure out what kits I might incorporate in the future.
Some of EP 7 started or stopped where the EP 6 was in time and place. However, a lot of Rump chaos was going on a few days into the cabal to his throne during the process of getting this out, so I wasn’t all in, but not sure I have been totally engaged for 80% of the tracks I recently put into the ether. It’s been more like cleaning or dusting some journal entries than composing a strong well-edited essay or novel.
This is the 4th maybe not an EP thus far at 11 tracks, but like the previous three 11 track EPs there are some short ones, some I wouldn’t call tracks nor songs, and there are a few remixes or alternate versions.
I hope you enjoy these tracks as I build my way forward “saltating along” to a thing yet to be built.
I choose the cover like most of the previous covers, on a whim, looking back at graphics I created or photos I took. I feel like I’m starting to find my way at this time, so the trail blazes on the trees felt appropriate. I was finding my way, or starting feel like I was seeing the light at the edge of the tree line. However, it was also starting to feel kind of clinical or clerical now being 7 EPs in in short order. Things were starting to feel mechanical…find folder holding music projects, open files, hit play, sounds good, export, needs work, do minimal to preserve the original intent, hit save, or three, spice it up, hit save, then do minimal production, save the wave, save the mp3, work on album art, manage all the folders, upload all the tracks, and art…and start the process again. Fun was becoming tedium, or attached closely to it. When “clerical,” or office type work, crossed my mind it reminded me of someone not clerical, but inspirational, a favorite of mine, Voltarine de Cleyre, so this is in memory of her.<3 It was also humorous to me as the “de” in her name is a nobiliary particle, to indicate nobility, yet she was anything but nor a believer in nobility, also “de,” as in opposite, could be seen an anti Cleyre album, or maybe anti clerical/office, yet that’s also how EP7 came to be at all…the clergy, well I won’t go there, except to say Voltarine and I are de clerical, though I do admire liberation theology.
Expect some remixes of this material, especially audio levels as many of these tracks were not mastered. Listening is best served by engaging with the volume and sub knob and/or an EQ to suit your taste if you have one.
